The Gaslamp Museum at the Davis-Horton House

Constructed by William Heath Davis in 1850, the house is a pre-framed lumber 'salt box' home from the east coast. The home was actually shipped to San Diego by boat around Cape Horn.The Gaslamp Museum at the Davis-Horton House has been home to fascinating people, including Alonzo Horton, who many consider the founder of San Diego, as well as to many pre-Civil War West Point graduates. Each room is decorated to represent different eras in the life of the house and its former inhabitants. In 1873, the home became a county hospital for the care of the sick and dying. The spirit of an unknown Victorian is rumored to reside there to this day.Gaslamp Gifts, a unique curiosity shop inspired by William Heath Davis' 1850's merchandising business, is located on the first floor of the museum. Stop by for some unusual souvenirs.
